Tipping Guidelines

• Rental car shuttle driver – $1-2 per bag
• Skycaps who assist in checking your bags - $2-4 per bag
• Wheelchair attendant should receive $5 and up
• Taxi – 15-20% for good service
• Valet - $2-5 when they retrieve your car
• Bellhops - $3 to $5 a bag depending on the size
• Hotel concierge - $5-10 for a dinner reservation, up to $50 for a trendy club
• Hotel maid - $2-5 a day for standard room
• Butler – 5% of resort bill
• Waiter/Bartender – 15-20%
• Room service - $2-3
• Hotel pool attendants - $1-2
• Cruises – Most cruise lines add an automatic tip to your shipboard account to cover the dining and room attendant staff. This is around $12 per day for a standard room. Your bar bill will likely already have the 15% tip included.
• Spa treatments – 15-20%
• Shore excursion guide - $2-4 for a half day, $4-8 for a full day
• Safaris – Guide $10 a day and tracker $5 per day
• Adventure guides - $25 per day per person
• Tour bus drivers - $1-2

All Inclusive Resort Tipping

All-inclusive resorts include your gratuities.  However, if you feel that you are receiving exceptional service , feel free to tip in small bills.  I usually recommend taking about $50-$75 in small bills (mostly $1's) for this purpose.  Please note this does not apply to Sandals/Beaches resorts where tipping is prohibited aside from the spa personnel and butlers.  The airport transfer company does not work for any resort so you can tip these drivers freely.  

Guidelines for Europe

• Taxi fare on meter - 10-15% 
• Restaurant total bill - 10-15% (if not already included, check the menu) 
• Tour director and motorcoach driver - $2.00 per person per day
• Local sightseeing guide -  $2.00 per person

Other International Tipping

Ask your travel agent as there are varying expectations depending on where you are traveling.  In some countries, such as Japan and China, tipping, especially at a restaurant, is considered an insult. In countries like the United Arab Emirates, tipping is a government mandate and is often added to a bill.
