Princess cruise line features a section on their ships called ‘The Sanctuary’.  Can I get an ‘ahhhhhhh’?

The Sanctuary is peaceful relaxing alternative to other bustling areas of the ship.  The outdoor inspired spa-like setting features signature beverages, light meals, massages, and attentive services.

Inside the Sanctuary are ‘serenity stewards’.  These stewards provide passengers with chilled face towels, Evian water atomizers, and healthy food and beverages such as smoothies and energy drinks.  Also available are mp3 players with noise cancelling headphones preloaded with relaxing spa music.

Sanctuary passengers can enjoy a massage in the private outdoor cabanas.  How about a sunset yoga session to end the day?  Does this sound a place where you would spend some of your cruise vacation?

I had the pleasure of inspecting another Holland America cruise ship, this time on the ms Amsterdam.  The Amsterdam and Volendam are sister ships so the differences were subtle.

However, this time I was able to view the stunning Pinnacle Suite.  The specific suite I viewed was number 7001.  Staying true to the classic, premium feel of Holland America, this stateroom felt suited for a king and queen.  There was a bedroom with a king size bed and oversize whirlpool bath.

There was also a living room, dining room, dressing room, private verandah, butler pantry, sofa bed, guest bathroom, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

One of my favorite features was the rectangular window underneath the desk area that looked out onto the verandah.

A truly beautiful space!  What is your favorite cruise cabin you have ever stayed in?

I had the pleasure of inspecting Holland America’s ms Volendam cruise ship today.  Here are some takeaways:

1)  What type of client is Holland America perfect for?  I think the most important part of my job is qualifying my clients so I can match the best vacation to their needs.  I asked the Holland America rep today what keywords my clients would say during the qualification process that would trigger me to suggest a Holland America cruise.  She replied premium, classic, value added, and superb service.  I have to say as I walked around this vessel, I believe she nailed it!  This was not the flashiest ship I have ever seen.  But, that is the charm of this floating resort, it brings a feeling of calm, peace, and simple luxury.

2)  Is Holland America only for the older clientele?  Although Holland America used to market to this group, it does not necessarily anymore.  In fact, as I was departing my tour and passengers were beginning to board, I saw a wide range of age groups, including families and mid-range adults.  At least for the Alaska 7 day market when school is out, there are families booking Holland America. 

3)  What is a fun feature that Holland America offers?  For you wine lovers, Holland America allows you to bring as many bottles onboard as you like.  This is different from other cruise lines where you are limited to one bottle per person.  You may drink the bottles in your room, on your balcony, as freely as you wish.  If you bring a bottle to your dining table, a small corkage fee applies.  This generous policy applies also when you are in port.  Did you find an amazing bottle of red while in Italy?  Bring it onboard to enjoy with your dinner that night.
