The Disney Dream - You Won't Want to Wake Up!

Any family who is fortunate enough to take a voyage on the Disney Dream is going to have the trip of a lifetime.  (until they book their next one)  I was on the Disney Dream on a ship inspection in the month of October and it was decorated beautifully for ‘Halloween on the High Seas’.

I saw just about every cabin type and even the entry level inside cabin is spacious.  I love the virtual porthole in the inside cabins that features a porthole sized video screen with actual footage of the outside of the ship.  Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures of the cabins as they were not made up enough to be considered ‘Disney ready’.   The crew was still getting ready for the next ship load of passengers.  I discovered not all cabins are created equally and have some great info for which cabins to target for my future clients.

Anyone who has concerns about their children having enough to do on a cruise has not been on a Disney cruise ship!  The Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab is an area designed just for kids.    There are multiple areas for imaginative play, crafts, stage performances, science experiments, movies and video games, etc.

One of my favorite features on the ship is the animated art.  There are thirteen of these ‘pictures’ around the ship.  They look like pictures, but then randomly turn into a video sequence.  If that isn’t cool enough, children can pick up their detective casebook pamphlet and solve a mystery using the animated art.

But, you have not experienced anything yet until you have experienced the Aqua Duck.  This is a water tube ride that takes you around the expansive pool deck and THROUGH the tween club ‘Edge’.

For the itty bitty cruisers, there is Nemo’s Reef for water play. What is nice about this area is most of it is covered.  This helps to protect baby young skin from the sun.

Adults will not be left behind with the fun in the sun.  They have their own adults only area with relaxing music, pool bar, and café.

At night, they can head on over to the adults only lounge area and pick from four venues.  My two favorites were Pink, a champagne bar, and Skyline.  Skyline features an entire wall of video which rotates between five different city skylines.  When we entered the lounge, it was Rio de Janiero.  Right before we left, it swapped to Paris.  The video is made to look real with moving cars and lights.

There are also two adult only restaurants;  Palo and Remy.  Palo is a romantic Italian restaurant with sweeping ocean views.  Remy is a multi-course event in itself complete with a stool just for the ladies purse.  Disney really does think of everything.

Disney offers multiple choices for family dining.  My favorite restaurant is Animators Palate.  On the Dream in Animators Palate, the turtle ‘Crush’ moves from table to table to interact with the guests during dinner.   Don’t be surprised if he notices your princess is wearing a crown or your pirate has a patch for his eye.  How does this turtle on a video screen know these things?  Is it magic?  If you have ever experienced Crush at the Disney theme parks you will appreciate his appearance at dinner even more.  Can’t decide between early or late dining?  With late dining only, you have the option of ‘dine and play’.  You sit down together as a family and your children are immediately brought their meals.  After they finish, the Oceaneer counselors come to collect the children for fun and games in the Oceaneer club and lab.  The adults are left to enjoy their meal.  If you are afraid you will miss the spectacular evening entertainment due to the late dining, just attend the earlier show!
